Fall is flying by and Thanksgiving is just around the corner! Thanksgiving is a day filled with the best fall vibes, football, and food. I like to channel the last of my fall energy into Thanksgiving before entering full Christmas mode. My favorite way to do this is by putting together the perfect fall outfit for Thanksgiving dinner. Although the day is quickly approaching, there’s still plenty of time to assemble your Thanksgiving outfit!
The first step in picking your outfit is the color scheme. My ideal color palette for fall includes browns, maroon, rust orange, and army green. These colors match the leaves that have been falling all season long. Brown is my favorite color to wear in the fall because there are so many different shades that you can mix and match to create a monochromatic outfit that has dimension. For example, you can wear chocolate brown pants with a tan sweater and boots. This is also an example of the trending “sandwich dressing rule,” where you match the color of your top and shoes and wear different colored pants in the middle.
Sandwich Dressing Rule Example:
For the base of your outfit, you can’t go wrong with a sweater on top. Sweaters are extremely versatile and cozy. Since Thanksgiving is a day of feasting, your comfort should be a priority. Oversized sweaters are super popular right now and pair well with jeans or cargo pants. If you’re attending a more formal dinner, you can also pair a sweater with a skirt and tights, or a nice pair of khakis. You may already have some in your closet, but if you’re looking for new sweaters, Aerie, H&M, and Hollister have tons of options.
Another way to spice up your outfit is by layering. November is a chilly month in the northeast, so a jacket or vest is a functional addition to any outfit. Some trending styles of jackets include leather jackets, bomber jackets, and aviator jackets. These styles can also add a new texture to an otherwise basic outfit.
If you’re having a more casual Thanksgiving and staying at home, you can still have fun with your outfit. A matching sweat set is a great way to feel put together while feeling cozy. You can also pair any sweater with more comfortable pants such as yoga pants. No matter how you spend your holiday, make sure you’re comfortable with whatever you choose to wear and enjoy the feast!
