Spring Mindfulness: 5 tips to being mindful in spring

By: Brianna McAleer

As the seasons change, so does the energy around us. Spring is a season that is typically associated with growth, ending chapters, and embarking upon new beginnings. We are approaching the last month of spring, which means chapters are ending, but new ones are waiting to begin. Whatever you may be doing in your life right now, know that it is important to welcome these new chapters despite the anticipation and uncertainty that might come with it.

Here are five ways that you can be mindful of welcoming these new beginnings into your life:

  1. Embrace new interests, you never know where it might take you

It is very common to get caught up in what we are familiar with and comfortable with. Sometimes, this mindset can leave us close-minded to activities and opportunities that actually wind up benefitting us. Welcome the new opportunities that come your way. It is okay to step outside of your comfort zone. You might discover new strengths that you never knew you possessed.

  1. Think forward, release the past

Dwelling about our pasts deters us from the true reality that we live in presently. To step away from the truth is to further ourselves from the lessons that the present yearns to teach us. Taking a moment to focus on your surroundings can help you tune in to the present. It is important to remember that releasing the past isn’t always so simple. You can’t force yourself to release something. Rather, you can first welcome the idea of releasing past moments, people, or things that no longer serve your soul. By welcoming the process of releasing the past, you will be able to move forward toward the new beginnings that await you in your next chapter.

  1. Spend time outdoors

Connecting with nature is key to recharging your physical and mental battery. Whether it be a quick walk in the park or an entire day outside, being with nature grounds us. In fact, it has been proven through various studies that nature improves overall mood, improves attention span, and reduces stress levels. Next time you are outside, analyze your surroundings and take in what types of beauty the Earth has to offer. This will keep you present in your reality, thus allowing you to reflect and accept what will come your way next.

  1. 10-15 minute meditation

There is no correct way to meditate. Everyone responds to meditation differently. Luckily, there are multiple meditation techniques that you can use to reconnect with yourself. A useful meditation technique can be closing your eyes and focusing on the silence around you. Another technique is guided meditation. You can find guided meditation videos or voiceovers online. Find the meditation technique that works best for you. It helps to be in a place where you can truly rest. When you meditate, your mind and body are much more connected, thus allowing you to approach life with a clear path ahead. A clear mind that is more at ease is key to welcoming the “new” into your life.

Listed below are some great guided meditations:

  1. Rest when needed

Most importantly, realize when it is time to take a break. Listen to when your being needs rest. This will prevent you from experiencing mental and physical pain in the long run. If you feel that your mind is being overactive, take a deep breath and close your eyes for a few minutes. If you are experiencing muscular fatigue, take time to stretch or simply lay down. If you listen to you what your being needs, you will be able to strive forward with boosted energy.

Find what works best for you!
