Tea blends that will keep you toasty this winter

By: Christina Silvestri

The United States is considered to be a coffee-crazed nation compared to those in Europe and Asia. I am one American who appreciates a warm cup of tea to relax. Winter is specifically the best time to indulge in different blends of nostalgic and calming flavors. Growing up, I was strictly a black tea girl. However, as the market expanded and I learned more about the benefits that different teas hold, I am now vastly more interested in broadening my horizons. Although I would not call myself a tea expert, I can definitely tell you what tastes good.

Twinings Peppermint Tea
Even though I drink this tea year-round, I think it is especially festive around the holidays. Add some sugar to your cup and it is like drinking a candy cane. What initially drew me to peppermint tea were the health benefits. According to Healthline, this herbal blend can aid digestion, bloating, freshening of breath, and concentration. Peppermint tea is my personal favorite from this list.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Throat Coat Lemon Echinacea Tea
The cold weather brings lots of colds and sore throats. This tea has been my holy grail remedy for sore throats. Think of licorice in terms of the taste. It took me a little time to get used to, but now I really like it! Nutritionist Heather Hanks at USA Rx says that the ingredients “coat your throat and soothe inflammation.” This sweet tasting tea is perfect for combatting flu season.

Tea Forte Cherry Marzipan Green Tea
I would consider any tea from Tea Forte a luxury tea. I have never tried this particular blend, but my mom was gifted it this holiday season and absolutly loves it. This festive and fruity tea with a hint of almond is a perfect end to a blustery cold day. A Tea Forte blend would make a special treat for your favorite tea connoisseur.

There are endless varieties of tea that are great for the cold months. These are just a few that I (along with my mom) swear by. I hope this list inspires you to step out of your comfort zone this winter and try a new warm treat!
