  1. Sleeping Giant State Park (Hamden, CT)

The first hiking trail on the list is located right near Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. This spot offers four different trails; The Tower Path, The Nature Trail, The Red Circle Gorge, and The Blue Trail. All the trails are different lengths the longest trail being 5.1 miles and the shortest being 0.75 miles. The most popular and recommended trail to start with is the Tower Path. It is the easiest route to hike up the Giant and is made of a gravel path, with a great view to greet you when you reach the top. Last spring I hiked this trail with my family and our Portuguese Water Dog, I highly recommend this trail for everyone and pets as well!

  1. Heublein Tower (Simsbury, CT)

This hiking trail in Simsbury is 1.25 miles long and leads to a tower at the top. The tower is open most days for hikers to go in and learn about history by walking through the museum that is located inside. Hikers do not have to go into the museum/tower but it is fascinating to read about how this tower and hike came to be. This is a personal favorite of my friends and I because it is a short hike with an amazing view. The whole hike takes about 30 to 40 minutes to get to the top. I recommend bringing some lunch to eat when you get to the top and sitting at the picnic tables to enjoy the view of Connecticut.

  1. Rattlesnake Mountain via Metacomet Trail (Farmington, CT)

A 2.5 mile trail in Farmington, CT with a very unique name. This trail’s name includes “Rattlesnake” because during colonial times the snake was seen throughout Connecticut. It is said to take an average time of one hour and eight minutes to complete. This is one of the more difficult trails/hikes on this list. This trail is populated with rock climbers, hikers, and runners. Animals are welcome to join you on your hike but they ask that you keep them on a leash. This is another personal favorite my family and I did for Father’s day one year with our dog and we found it challenging but fun!

  1. Wadsworth Fall State Park (Middletown, CT)

The last hiking trail on our list is located in Middletown and it includes an amazing waterfall view. It is recommended to go visit when the weather is a little warmer so that you can enjoy the Coginchaug River by swimming or fishing in it. There are many trails to explore that are around 4.5 miles long.

Time to plan the hike you are going to complete this spring in Connecticut!
