Activities to Welcome into Your Life This Summer

By Erin Dugan

Summer is often seen as the perfect time for relaxation and letting loose. Escaping seasonal depression and welcoming 90-degree weather is ideal to most people. However, it can be easy to lose track of your routine and feel out of sorts in the process. Here’s what to do this summer to stay both exuberant and grounded:

  1. Reading

While reading may seem mundane to some, it’s truly one of the best activities when you have too much free time. Relaxing in the sun while reading a book for pleasure instead of work is the epitome of tranquility. Not only do you get to enjoy a riveting story, you can also appreciate the high UV while spending time outdoors.

  1. Journaling

If you want to feel peaceful and rant without actually ranting, journaling is perfect for you. This is great to do anytime of year, but can be easier to get into during the summer. The best way to be in touch with your emotions and with nature is by writing down how you feel or simply what your days look like. It’s also such a cool thing to look back on years later and reminisce about what you did during the summer of ‘25!

  1. Needlepoint

This may seem niche, but I promise you, it’s a time consuming and rewarding experience. There are thousands of canvases to choose from (Penny Linn is my personal favorite shop). It gives a great excuse to get off your screens and do something creative that you can keep forever. You can turn your finished canvases into pillows, frames, ornaments, belts, keychains, and just about a hundred other things!

  1. Walking / Hiking

Unfortunately, with the horrendous humidity on the east coast this summer, it’s been a bit harder to get walks in during the day. To get your body moving and feel 10x more productive, try waking up at sunrise to exercise and appreciate the peaceful mornings before the heat. Since this might not be for everyone, walking at sunset is a great alternative and can be added to a nighttime ritual.

  1. Fruit Picking

If you live near any berry farm where you can pick your own, please take full advantage! While it’s currently blueberry picking season, we’re approaching the best time to start picking peaches, nectarines, plums, and blackberries. It certainly feels like an accomplishment coming home to eat the fruit you picked yourself. You can enjoy them fresh or bake with them if you’re craving something a little sweeter!

Take your summer to new heights with these activities!
